Gordon Hunt is a painter inspired by the effects of light on the Cornish landscape.
He paints with a distinctive style building up layers of colour which ultimately portray a sparkling effect. He was features on Sky Art’s Landscape Artist of the year 2016.
“I work from my studio at home in Fowey. My creative works include colourful paintings, digital art, ceramics and murals.
I am particularly interested in the light effects of sunshine on water, giving sparkling reflections and silhouettes, resulting in strong contrasting colours and dynamic shapes, flashes of colour resonate through the pictures. I concentrate on painting the light around the object, I feel the ‘light’ then becomes the subject of the painting, I have a real sense of ‘painting the light’ when creating these works.
Fowey is a great source of inspiration for my painting, but days out around the county looking for different inspiration has become an important aspect of my work. The colours, shapes and textures of Cornwall give an endless supply of images to try and capture.”
