As the son of a carpenter, Dan has always had a strong connection with wood and makes it the centre of his art. He uses recycled materials whenever possible.

“I work mostly in locally-sourced timber from trees that have either fallen themselves, or have been felled for safety reasons. My sculptural pieces evolve organically, in a variety of different directions and often resemble micro-organisms and plant life on a large scale. Sometimes, I will scale up an organism beyond recognition, which offers us a warped perspective on the minute and intricate."

Dan enjoys creating work when he doesn't have an intended outcome. This tends to inspire new directions or themes.
