About our artists:

Shaunna Hubbard

Shaunna is a painter originally from Greater Manchester. She Moved to the Cornwall coasts At 5 years old With her family. she currently resides in Newquay where the surf lifestyle and beach culture have greatly inspired her practice. She graduated from Falmouth University with a BA in Fine art in 2020. Since then, She has participated in several group exhibitions including her Falmouth graduate online showcase, She was selected to be part of Create! magazine's 'Unleashing magic’ online exhibition. She has also had her paintings featured in publications such as House & Garden magazine and Vogue.

Mindfulness has always been an important focus in Shaunna’s practice, she wants her audience to feel calm and uplifted. She does this by using simple subject matters that are pleasing to the eye, things that everyone enjoys, sweet treats, technicolour pallets, or simply the color of the ocean. Her main focus is capturing the captivating vibrant interplay of light and colour of the light-hearted imagery inspired by lazy summer days.  I want to allow my audience the pleasure of being somewhere else, somewhere reminiscent of a midsummer’s afterglow. I want my work to be able to be a symbol of a feeling thought or metaphor that celebrates the sense of freedom, a summer fantasy and gives a sault to the Hopeless romantic”.

Rachel Ward

My work is inspired by place, nature, and natural environments. Every landscape, man-made or natural, is bustling with energy that I want to bring to light and recreate. Working intuitively with colour, texture, and collage, I see patterns that form shapes and figures, which I build up step by step, creating a final result that offers the viewer an infinitely detailed world to explore and experience.

I am fascinated with techniques that combine hand-drawn and digital processes. My most recent work is based on imagination and the idea of traveling through space to unworldly places and what these worlds could look like. I was particularly influenced by promotional travel posters, especially vintage rail travel, which celebrated an event or landscape by presenting them in a surreal and idealistic scenario.

My personal practice focuses on creating fun characters and bringing recognizable creatures to life; they tend to have an innocent spirit and humorous tone, as well as being decorative.  My techniques cross over and my characters populate landscapes, creating atmospheric and unique worlds, with the potential for story.
